Re: This Season - A Tale of Shooting (or Lack Thereof)
The coaches just recruited (and ultimately missed out on) a guard transfer who made 8 threes (on 29 attempts, so 27.6%) in 578 minutes across two seasons of college basketball. Do we believe that would have helped?

Re: Clunie Email re NIL
Davidson (and Dayton and Duke) does not take money in or pay money out for NIL.

Re: Clunie Email re NIL
When it comes to NIL, which is what this thread is about (or at least what I’ve been talking about on this thread), what could/should the College do that it’s not doing? Scholarships aren’t NIL. Facilities aren’t NIL.

Re: Clunie Email re NIL
Great. That there isn’t world peace doesn’t mean you’re not all in on world peace. Just like the fact that Davidson isn’t associated with the biggest-dollar NIL deals doesn’t mean that it isn’t all in. We’ve got two groups of folks on here who seem to refuse to believe the College’s repeated stateme...

Re: Clunie Email re NIL
The College is all in. The College doesn’t and can’t (yet) pay players—via NIL or whatever it ends up getting called. The College can’t force fans to give to the collective or directly to players. But the College is doing all it can. It’s all in.

Re: Clunie Email re NIL
Frankly, we could buy the A10 if we really wanted to. The question is will Davidson go all-in on an endeavor that is inherently smarmy like the NIL. I don't know and will not hazard a guess. I don't know what I would do if it were my decision. Doesn’t the Athletic Director’s email suggest Davidson ...

Clunie Email re NIL
The College just sent an email from Chris Clunie addressing many of the questions and concerns about NIL that have been raised here. He describes how Davidson is (and has for several years now) been embracing the new landscape. Here’s the text: “Dear Wildcat Fans, Davidson Athletics has a history of...

Re: Welcome Zach Laput!
Should there be any academic requirements for student athletes? Should they have to be enrolled? Should they have to be full-time students (defined by the number of hours/credits they are taking)? Should they have to attend class meetings and submit assignments? Should they have to maintain a certai...

Re: Welcome Zach Laput!
I haven’t seen anyone on here disparage Laput. What I have tried to argue is (1) Davidson should maintain some academic standards for athletic eligibility; and (2) one of those requirements should be that the student athlete is pursuing a degree. I don’t think (1) is especially controversial, but (2...

Re: Welcome Joe Hurlburt!
He was extremely productive in high school: https://colorado.rivals.com/news/joe-hurlburt-nearing-the-end-of-a-prolific-high-school-career Congratulations to him and the coaches. He appears to be a great fit. The Davidson system should give him opportunities to shoot it from outside and use his pass...

Re: Welcome Zach Laput!
Davidson has always found itself in a competitive landscape where some programs take student-athletes who could not have met Davidson’s admission standards, have players take coursework that is much easier than what’s on offer at Davidson, and have pushed up against (and even skirted) various NCAA/c...

Re: Welcome Zach Laput!
Will the College announce what kind of student Laput will be? Bentley described him as a senior; he was enrolled there for four years; and he has one year of eligibility remaining. But I haven’t seen it confirmed that he will graduate. I don’t like the idea of one-year players, but what makes me mor...

Re: Portal
Colleges/universities don’t pay out NIL dollars. Davidson would not receive a donation for NIL. Fans/corporations/whatever that want to funnel money to Davidson athletes would give money to one of the independent but Davidson-connected collectives. Most of the money for the library came from the Duk...
