"Held Steph to 12 points during his junior year"? Maybe 12 assists that year; many more points (30?) Wasn't that the year of the disappointing Bracket Buster game with Winthrop? Disappointing in that WU's RPI was in the tank, and doubly disappointing in that the game was so non-competitive?

Didn't JR torch them? I'm no wizard, but I remember Winthrop being rather punchless that game.

For "junior year", I think he means manta ray or whatever his name was.

Steph had an off night his soph year at Winthrop. JRich had 20, I believe. Junior year was a rout at the Arener. I'm sure Steph had a bunch that night.

Losethrop fans have this mass delusion that Steph was "held" to 12 his sophomore year. That's the game that the poster thinks he is referring to. Davidson never trailed in that game, led by 18 at one point, and cruised to the 60-47 road win. Steph had 12 points and 8 rebounds. Mantoris Robinson had 0 points and 0 rebounds. Mantoris was better the next time he played Davidson. 10 points, 3 rebounds, 0 assists, and 5 turnovers. Davidson led by 31 in that game. Civi scored 3, Bond 3, Nelms 2. Curry was pretty good. 30 points, 2 rebounds, 13 assists, 3 steals. Cats cruised to an easy 97-70 win.

one year our pocket schedule had a foto of chad holmes stuffing tim Duncan....although it happened it wasn't exactly a complete and accurate synopsis of the nights events

Did you actually preview what you wrote before you submitted? I'm surprised that the moderators let this one pass, because that comment comes from the basest of emotions. Clearly you need to look into a mirror.

Gay Marriage

Post by rbarney » Wed Apr 30, 2014 4:12 pm

I think a much better avenue to pursue than personal invective is the recent court case filed by the UCC in North Carolina, somewhat turning the religious freedom argument on its head. Whatever denomination Captneff belongs to does have a definite right to its own religious viewpoint and practice. What the UCC is pointing out is that, in this country, the imposition of a religious edict allies the state with a particular religion in violation of religious freedom. If anti-gay-marriage statutes are to survive judicial review, they are going to have to make a solid argument that something more than Biblical orthodoxy underlies the prohibition of gay marriage. It seems to me that the courts have allowed the use of Peyote by Southwestern Indian tribes (I could be wrong on that . . .) which comes closer to the intersection of tribal religion and societal restrictions on hallucinogenic drugs.

However, having said all that, this really belongs in the Non-Athletic realm of argument.

"We were in the center ring the whole night,'' longtime Davidson coach Bob McKillop said. ''We were not on the ropes. We were not on the mat. We were in the center ring slugging away, and we just ran out of time.''
