Caitlin Clark - Like Watchin' Steph
Re: Caitlin Clark - Like Watchin' Steph
MBB will switch to quarters soon. Like all other basketball. And abandon the 1-and-1.

That’s the way it works in the women’s game.wildforthecats wrote: ↑Wed Apr 03, 2024 4:20 pmWhen is soon?

also consider:
Bill Russell. 2 titles '55, '56. Averaged 20.7/20.3 in his college career.
Maravich. Averaged 44.2 ppg with no 3 pt shot or shot clock. Caitlin reminds me of Pistol Pete.
Walton. 2 titles and 3 time POY at UCLA. Great performance by Caitlin vs LSU but not as dominant/good as Walton vs Memphis in title game 1973.
David Thompson. Maybe the best college player of all time. NC State 57-1 in his junior and senior years. At 6'4" he could dominate 7 footers around the basket.

There’s lots of them if you think about: How about Jerry Lucas? 17 rebounds and 23 points per game. Shot 62% from the field. NCAA champ once, runner up the other two years. SI athlete of the year in 1961.Cat Forever wrote: ↑Thu Apr 04, 2024 1:28 pmalso consider:

Ann Meyers? Do we think Caitlin is better than Meyers? I think probably yes ...but there might be a debate.
I remember well that Ann Meyers was believed by the experts to be the best female BB player ever. Four year AA at UCLA. She achieved the first quadruple double in the history of D1 basketball (men or women) with 20 pts, 14 rbs, 10 assists, and 10 steals! First (? only) female to sign a guaranteed NBA contract (Pacers).

Walton. Hands down. 7 footer with explosive hops. great shotblocker and rebounder. Unseld-like outlet passes. Unique court vision = great passer. and he could score. best college player I ever saw.

Wow. WTF got 3 of my Top 10. Steph. Ralph. And Ernie D who was epic at PC.
Walton
Bryant Stith
Maloy
Durant (even if it was only one year)
Howard Porter
J.J. Reddick (yeah - I know, but that's how much I hate Carolina)
(I'll think of a 10th)

I have a soft spot for Ernie, he was at Davidson basketball camp back in the early 70’s.

Bob Lanier averaged 27.6 points and 15.7 rebounds per game over his career at St. Bonaventure, and one of the best teams Davidson ever had was overwhelmed by him in 1970. After beating Davidson, that 1970 team beat Villanova to make the Final Four, but Lanier was unable to play due to an injury in the Villanova game, and the Bonnies lost to Jacksonville in the semis. Lanier vs. Artis Gilmore would have been epic.
Lew Alcindor was pretty good, too.

"We were in the center ring the whole night,'' longtime Davidson coach Bob McKillop said. ''We were not on the ropes. We were not on the mat. We were in the center ring slugging away, and we just ran out of time.''

Fun thread. Clark reminds me of both Bird and Steph. Both carried their teams far in the Tournament with unworldly play. The Bird/Magic phenomenon revitalized/saved the NBA and Clark has popularized the Women’s NCAA.
