Surprised Cobb didn’t already tell us about this guy.
Today ECU’s Parker Byrd became the 1st player in NCAA history with a prosthetic leg. He walked as a PH late in the game. Byrd lost his leg after a boating accident. There are lots of articles about him on the net.
It’s fitting that this distinction would belong to a pirate. I don’t think a white whale had anything to do with it.

Re: Parker Byrd
Just saw that on the tube. Good for him.
Re: Parker Byrd
I remember when his boat accident happened as that was big news in eastern NC. He came in as a highly touted recruit and was expected to perhaps get some time as a freshman.
The trauma surgeons at ECU are some of the best in the nation. Not to mention the helicopter folks and the EMTs who clearly are outstanding. They do incredible work at the ER (one of the busiest in NC) here. Very fortunate that this amazing young man happened to get hurt close to an amazing emergency room.
BTW, opening day attendance at the ECU game was 5,211!
