Re: Up now: Villanova
Whew! Weber pitched himself into trouble in the 8th: HBP, out, out, double, HBP. Got out of it on a liner to the centerfielder with the bases loaded. Still 5-3. We need some insurance runs.

Weber back out to pitch the 9th. I'm not sure that's a good idea after his shaky 8th.

Re: Up now: Villanova
On second thought, that was a great idea! Weber set them down in order on 10 pitches. He pitched 4 1/3 innings of 1 hit, 1 walk, no run ball and got the win. His 3 HBPs were his only mistakes, and they almost cost him, but he was otherwise brilliant. He threw 68 pitches, and 50 of them were strikes.DC69Wildcat wrote: ↑Sat Feb 24, 2024 4:09 pmWeber back out to pitch the 9th. I'm not sure that's a good idea after his shaky 8th.
Final 5-3.

We were down 2-0 and loaded the bases with no outs in our half of the 2nd. And didn't score. Still 2-0, bottom 3. Friend starts the 3rd with a walk, Putnam strikes out, Shaggy singles. Corners, one out. Gotta score this time. Jed Howard up.

Okay. Fielder's choice plates the run. 2-1. Cotrone up. Strikes out looking.

Feczko leaves with a runner on first and 2 out in the 4th. 3-1. Fix relieves him.

Friend single makes it 3-2 after 4. Ed Hall in for Davidson in the 5th. Let's see how he bounces back from the UNCC disaster.

He got the 3, 4, and 5 guys in order.

Re: Up now: Villanova
Only 5 combined runs in the first half of the game. I'll bet we end up with 15 combined runs.

Re: Up now: Villanova
Well, I could sense it coming but I didn't mean in the next inning. Villanova puts up lots of runs with plenty of Davidson help in the 6th. Finally on to the bottom of the 6th trailing 11-2.

Re: Up now: Villanova
Ed Hall has pitched 2 2/3 innings in 2 games, and has hit 6 batters, walked 4, and given up 7 hits and 14 earned runs. He's got pretty good stuff, but because he can't get the ball over the plate, he's pitching from behind on every hitter that he doesn't plunk. I hope our new pitching coach can work some magic.

As I come in from doing some yard work, I see that the final was 13-2. From 3-2, Villanova only added 1. But it was in the wrong column.
