Question for those in the know. How does admissions work with the basketball program? Do they give preclearance to the coach to make an offer to player A, B, or C, or are our offers contingent upon successfully going through the general admissions process? How does the timing work?

Watching the VCU / St Joe game. VCU's Toibu Lawal just made an amazing dunk where his head was clearly over the rim. He is from England, too.. just saying..

49.5 inch vertical will do that for you.

Lake Norman High defeated Greensboro Grimsley 64-44 last night to advance in the 4A West playoffs.
Davidson recruit Trent Steinour '25 plays for Lake Norman. Grimsley had a 6'9" center, Richard Goods, who is not being recruited as intensely as he should because he played for 3-4 high schools due to bad advice.
Steinour should be a Steph Curry-like priority for Davidson. Davidson kept pursuing Steph after his parents announced he was going elsewhere. The coaches visited the Curry home and Steph announced he was going to Davidson if they would hold a scholarship for him until the Spring signing period when he was 18 and did not need his parents to a Letter of Intent. Sonya and Dell agreed to sign for him to go to Davidson.
Colt Langdon is another '25 recruit we should be after. His father played football at Virginia. He's being recruited by Big Ten and Big East schools, but none from NC, at least not publicly.

Colt is a stud. Just won the conference player of the year as a Junior.

Looks like he’s going to be a graduate student.
Re: Newest Kool Aid recruiting thread
Id be surprised if he winds up at Davidson if hes already on track to graduate Penn this year, but presumably the news means we have an open roster spot for next season or are at least preparing in case we wind up in those circumstances.

Re: Newest Kool Aid recruiting thread
Yes. It's interesting for this reason at least.
Re: Newest Kool Aid recruiting thread
We don't need a 6'1 PG at the moment, unless we find one who is a lights-out shooter. We need a 6'6" swing player with a truculent disposition who can defend and rebound like crazy - like Brooks or Kosmalski.
We need to get quicker vertically. If everyone stays (unlikely in this new transient portal world), we have some excellent building blocks.

I think we do need a PG. I think it's the major, glaring need. I am not convinced that Brizzi is our PG of the future. To my eye he plays recklessly and out of control a lot of the time and he's still making the same mistakes he made early in the season--driving in too deep, stopping the ball, nowhere to go with it. Just not seeing great PG instincts from him. Not saying he can't get there--he has some positives in his defensive ability, and his shooting stroke looks good, but he'll need help regardless, even if he moves into the starter role.Bill Cobb wrote: ↑Tue Mar 12, 2024 4:44 pmWe don't need a 6'1 PG at the moment, unless we find one who is a lights-out shooter. We need a PG with a calm, cool head who knows how to run a team and can see the play developing ahead, who can reliably shoot the 3 and make free throws.
Regarding the swing player, I think we already have the guy you are talking about on our team, and he came in second behind Durkin for the Colt 45 award. I'd love to see Adam as a defensive specialist/rebounder who could take the open 3 when it fit the offense. I think he has the physical skills to be that type of player, and he's a little feisty too, which helps. I'd love to see him be coached in this direction.

ACC Championship features many players Davidson recruited to some degree. From NC State: DJ Horne, DJ Burns, Ben Middlebrooks, and Breon Pass. From UNC: Cormac Ryan.

Can’t believe y’all are arguing whether we need a PG or a D-first wing. We have those players! Brizzi will be a great PG for us when he gets the TOs under control, which he showed evidence of in second half of season.Dr. Bliss wrote: ↑Tue Mar 12, 2024 6:05 pmI think we do need a PG. What we need are guys at every position that can knock down threes. We shot 30ish percent from three against D1 opponents. That doesn’t cut it when your offense is designed to get backcut layups and doesn’t involve a lot of dribble-drives.
Durkin and Kochera can shoot well enough, and I’m sure some others (hopeful for Hunter especially) will improve in the off-season. But what we really need is a ringer guard that can walk in the gym cold and knock down >40% from three a la Lee, MJ, Sullivan, Cochran. All the best Davidson teams have that player. We should be searching the world over for the next one.
